Ecologias e concepções culturais de saúde, doença e cura: Reflexões iniciais

RESUMO
Os conceitos de saúde, doença e cura relacionam-se com diversas outras manifestações das ecologias e das culturas em que se desenvolvem. Assistimos no ocidente a uma procura significativa de terapêuticas oriundas de outras culturas, e o número crescente de populações imigradas traz consigo uma diversidade importante de práticas médicas e psicológicas com origens em outras tradições culturais, que convivem com o sistema médico dominante. Esta realidade levanta diferentes questões teóricas e práticas. O presente artigo pretende iniciar a
discussão sobre estas questões a partir de dois objectivos principais: i) organizar as concepções de saúde, doença e cura a partir da identificação estrutural das culturas proposta por P. Descola (2005); ii) identificar alguns factores transversais a estas concepções e levantar hipóteses que possam explicar a procura das medicinas tradicionais, no ocidente.

ABSTRACT
The concepts of health, illness and healing relate to various other
manifestations of the ecologies and cultures in which they develop. There is a significant demand for traditional therapies derived from other cultures in the West, and immigrant populations bring an important diversity of medical and psychological care practices originated from other cultural traditions that coexist with the dominant medical system. This situation raises different theoretical and practical issues. The paper aims to initiate discussion on these issues i) by organizing the different health, disease and healing conceptions upon the structural identification of cultures proposed by P. Descola (2005); ii ) by identifying some of their cross-cultural factors and by raising hypothesis that can explain the demand for traditional medicines in the West.
